Army in charge of security of District Jail Office Lamjung


The Nepal Army has started providing security to the District Jail Office Lamjung.  A meeting of the District Security Committee held a few days ago had decided to deploy Nepal Army in the security of the prison.

 According to the District Administration Office, Lamjung, the army has been deployed for prison security as per the decision of the Council of Ministers.  Until now, the prison was guarded by Nepal Police.  Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Sharma said that the army has been handed over the security of Lamjung Prison Office from Thursday until further notice.  According to him, 15 Nepal Army personnel have been deployed under the leadership of Subedar Baburam Adhikari of the Shrijang Battalion in Udipur.  He said that 15 Nepal Army personnel and five Nepal Police personnel have been assigned to provide security to the prison.

 Earlier, 19 security personnel led by an assistant police inspector were providing security.  He said that the responsibility of the prison has been handed over to the Nepal Army as per the policy of the Government of Nepal.

 Chief District Officer Sharma said that the Nepal Army and the Armed Police Force will be deployed to manage the corona infection and the security of important places has been handed over to the Nepal Army.  Although the Lamjung District Jail has a capacity of 35 inmates, there are currently 77 inmates.  There are 67 men and 7 women in the jail, said jailor Bishnu Prasad Poudel.  Of the 39 inmates, 33 are men and six are women.
